Three people have been arrested after a suspected burglar was stabbed to death at a home in Salford.

Reports said the killed 26-year-old man was part of a gang attempting to get into a property on Ethel Avenue in Pendlebury just before midnight on Wednesday.

The owner of the property is believed to have disturbed the group, who were wearing balaclavas, began their raid.

Locals said they understood intruders tried to break into the back door of the home, then police received a 999 call from a woman at the house.

The dead man - who has not yet been named - was apparently carried away from the house by the other gang members.

Greater Manchester Police said an investigation was in its early stages.

"Police were called to an address on Ethel Avenue following reports of a burglary and a group of men carrying an injured man on to Hospital Road," a statement said.

"On arrival at Hospital Road, police found a 26-year-old man with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead."

"Two men and a woman have been arrested and remain in police custody."

On the bright side, he won't be doing it again. Another scroat less to wrry about.
A knife is a weird way to go...would suggest either the thief went for the holder or the holder is a bit of a nutcase.

The plot thickens...

A suspected burglar has been stabbed to death while apparently trying to break into a house in Greater Manchester.

It is understood the man was attempting to get into a house in Ethel Avenue, Salford, on Wednesday night when the householder tried to defend the house.

The man, 26, is believed to have been carried away by other members of a balaclava-clad gang as they fled, before being dumped in the street.

The householder, his son and son's girlfriend have been arrested.

Greater Manchester Police said it was treating the death as murder.

The men, aged 57 and 29, and 21-year-old woman are being questioned in connection with the death.
'Shocking incident'

Police have put up a 100m cordon around the terraced house in Pendlebury, which backs on to open scrubland.

Ch Supt Kevin Mulligan, who heads Greater Manchester Police's Salford division, said: "Clearly this is a shocking incident and a man has lost his life.

"However, I can reassure the community that we will thoroughly investigate what happened last night and do not believe that members of the public are at risk.

"I would urge anyone who knows something to speak to officers from the major incident team and anyone else who has other concerns can speak to my officers, who will be providing an increased presence to provide the community with reassurance."

Well blas, a knife is not a pre-emptive weapon..its one you use to threaten or defend with. The only type of person to use it as preemptively, I.e. someone planning on stabbing someone, is a bit screwy.

Possibly skitz but what if they were breaking in via the kitchen? It's reasonable to assume a knife could be lying on the bench. The guy who has inflicted the wounds may have caught them 'in the act' and in fear, looking around for a weapon to defend himself, seen the knife and picked it up? He may on the other hand, have taken the knife from the thief. Of course, we're assuming the stabbing was inflicted with a knife. The weapon may have been something else.

Based on the 'evidence' so far, your suggestion that the thief 'went for the holder' is obviously a possibility. However, I think it's unfair to judge the 'holder' as a 'bit of a nutcase' based simply on what we're being told.
It's good to see the police have detained the people that belong to the house, rather than spending their valuable time searching for gang members that got away
Firking idiots!
If I ever found unwelcome guest in my property, I would not have any problem giving it to them, and if that means death so be it!
