Buying a 2nd hand car instead of an EV

So, you agree, your EV means that a simple, spontaneous trip out, on a nice day, means it requires the planning of a military campaign, versus just jumping in a ICE, without any planning needed?

:ROFLMAO: It really doesn't! (Especially if you have your own "petrol pump" on your drive). I just get in mine and drive it. If the battery gets low, I pull into a charging area and charge. It's really not that hard!

I've never found the need for a petrol/diesel pump in my drive. I have a pump just 1/4 mile away, and such is the fuel range, I could nip to the other end of the country, to instantly refuel, and absolutely no planning necessary.

If it sold diesel at 19p a litre you'd probably find a need quick enough though... ;)

And yeah, I'd just get in mine and drive to the other end of the country right now if I needed to. I do it regularly enough anyway. I live in the North West corner of Cumbria, and there's a lab that we sometimes use for testing on the Kent coast. Take it from someone who does that trip regularly, it really isn't hard!:giggle:

The cost of missing out on flexibility, which is set to rise dramatically anyway, now you are hooked.

Might be truer to say "the cost of missing out on perceived flexibility"? ;)

And yeah, it's (maybe) going to rise "dramatically" to...

...drum roll...

...5p-a-mile..

...in 2028...:ROFLMAO:

Good job we can all be absolutely certain that petrol and diesel won't be going up by then, of course...;)

What about someone who lives on the 10th floor of a flat? (Or has no driveway)

Anyone got a long lead I can borrow?

When we bought our latest car, I CBA with the PHEV version because I knew after the initial purchase, I'd end up not plugging it in every night so we went with just the HEV version. It’s for that reason I don’t think I’d ever buy a fully electric car. If everyone was driving a fully electric car, just imagine what the queues at the motorway charging points would be like.

Many don't, making them pointless.

It'll be a long time before EVs are that prevalent.
If and when they ever are, there will be far more charging places.

Harry's argument is that EVs are useless for those drop-of-a-hat epic road trips.

I was asking when Harry last did such a trip.

I don't usually bother reading, or responding to your banal, oft offensive comments, but this one occasion I will...

Last time was October, next time in a few weeks or so. So far as the vehicle is concerned, no planning or preparation will be required, beyond the usual check the tyre pressures.
