After months of nagging I have finally persuaded the boy to put brakes on his beloved BMX bike, however we are struggling to set up the spring tension on the caliper as below. does anyone have any idea of the procedure to tighten up and set the tension so that the caliper springs away from the wheek rim once the brake is released.....

iirc isnt the tension made by the cable?
squeeze the caliper together pull the cable down and retighten nut.
or am i barking??

I think its me thats barkin mate, I must be missing something

i am no expert on modern brakes but because the tension spring goes throught what looks like a nut i assume there is a ratchet/spline/to hold in position
i would assume to retension or adjusts you put a spanner on the "nut" loosten the hex bolt until the spring tension is held by the spanner then rotate to adjust then tighten the hex bolt till it bites move the spanner if possible up to a segment to locate it fully then fully tighten the bolt
of course this is only for pulling the brakes off the rim
as said the adjustment is on the cable
