I have some left over timber (2x6) and I wanted to use these as garden deck joists. I was thinking of treating them before using them outside. Is this totally daft? Trying to make use of the timber. Any thoughts?
No where near as good as the pressure treated tanalised timber (which has preservative all the way through) but if you treat your timber well, and keep it off the ground, you'll get a few years out of it!

yes you will regret it down the road as the area where you have contact [wood to wood wood to other] will trap moisture regardless off how much treatment after the fact and the joist will fail long before the decking
