Hi All

I have just bought a new cooker and got an electrician over to connect it up, only to be told that I need a 6mm circuit from the consumer unit as the cooker is a higher rating.
No probs with that but I am unsure of his suggestions to get the cable to this location. The floor is solid and the ceiling is a no no, so he is proposing the cable is run around the room behind the plinths at floor level, unprotected.

Would this be okay or should I get another electrician??

Thanks in advance for your opinions

Cheers

Nothing really wrong with it - its no different, IMO, than running cable across the top of a suspended ceiling. Its a little clumsy though.

Its protected from damage, and short term water exposure wont harm it.

I see your point, hadn't really thought of it that way..

maybe I think it's just more accessible and therefore more susceptible to damage. Did you mean protected by the plinths that are fitted or by the cable insulation sheath?

Hi All

Can't see that there is any other option; it's a bit of a lash up, but seeing as the units are already fitted his options are limited.

Just out of interest is this a permitted cable route / best practise / or a bit of a bodge??

It is ok, but for good practice I would run the cable inside some mini-trunking as it will make it a bit more tidier than tacking.

technically its surface mounting, so zones don't apply..

there is no danger of nailing through a concealed cable if it's clearly visible to the naked eye..

and it IS visible.. once the units are removed it's right there..

I'd make sure e runs it at the back of the units though, not just right behind the kick plate..
