Can I expect different DeWalt tools to use the same battery packs?

DeWalt also dabble in the 9ah battery too,

Doesn't quite work the same. It's 9ah @ 18v. It's only 3ah @ 54v. The science behind it however is you'll get better performance and runtime with a 3ah 54v motor than you would a 9ah 18v motor so in that sense it cancels out the difference to an extent. However Milwaukee only offer M28 as their top line which is non existent for anything like construction tools.

I tried getting away with 2 batteries on 4 tools, and found it a mistake. It's a PITA swapping batteries as you change tools, and you can sometimes run a battery down before the others recharged. In the end, I went for a battery per tool, and when I was cleaning up roof hip tiles with the angle grinder, still found I was running out of batteries before I could get the others charged up (2 going at a time) so I'm investing in a rapid charger for my next purchase.

My rule of thumb has always been 2 batteries per tool. So I can have some charged and ready and one on the body. It's an expensive investment when you have a lot of cordless gear but there's nothing worse than having tools die at half 4 on a Friday at the last job... So to speak lol.
