I was recently involved in a crash in my company vehicle. I was in the black one coming up the hill when the driver in the other vehicle coming down the hill tried to turn left into a side street to evade the police who were following at some distance. As soon as they could the two male occupants of the other vehicle got out and scarpered. They were apprehended shortly afterwards. Their car was untaxed and had no MOT. I don’t know if they were insured or not but now I am dreading the next time the missus has to insure her car because I am a named driver on her policy. Not my fault but insurance companies deem you to be a higher risk if you have recently been involved in an accident.

Wait and see

I was at fault in a minor accident and my insurance went down at renewal

Were they insured? If so you can claim against their insurance. If not, can you get anything from the motor insurance bureau? Shouldn’t affect your premium too much if your insurance co didn’t pay out for the loss. We had someone crash into us while stopped at lights - their ins co paid to get it fixed at a place of our choosing, got the car back and the very next day, our sons neighbour reversed out of their drive straight into the side of our car which was parked on the other side of the street. Again, her ins co paid out and all we had against us was 2 'no claim' incidents. Didn’t really affect the premium as far as I could see.

Thinking back the last time the insurance shot up because of a bump from a third party was when I was driving the missus’s car. That was a right fiasco. The guy who pulled in front of me leaving me with nowhere to go said he would pay for the damage. He changed his story later and claimed his girlfriend was driving and he was a passenger. I informed our insurance company that it was a pack of lies and fortunately they were on the ball right away and the claim was stopped. That did not however stop the premium from rising in the interim period.

I assume they weren’t insured because the vehicle wasn’t taxed. I didn’t get involved in the legal side because the company doesn’t pay insurance because they don’t need to as they can afford any claims made against them.

I expect the guys in the other to end up in court charged with more than running in me. I suspect it was drug dealing.
