Hi,
My sister has asked me to look at her mower.
She said it was fine last year but now will not start.
Ive narrowed the issue down to the carb / fuel tap.
Reason beeing after trying to start it the plug is dry.
If i pour some fuel down the air filter it runs.
Pulling the cord will not start it.

Ive taken the carb off & give it a good clean.
Removed float & needle jet/spring below & replaced it,i can see it working fine.
Removed the main just & the brass tube with those small holes in the side & can blow through them fine.
The fuel tap has a rubber washer like thing inside with 4 holes in it.
2 holes locate on 2 pegs to locate it & the other 2 holes must be the in / out for the fuel depending on where the tap is positioned.
Its clean & ive noticed a screw had been damaged in the process so somebody has been here before.
With the tap cover off & the fuel from the tank flowing i can see it making bubbles as it comes through one of the holes BUT is it then going down the hole it should be ?

Im looking for a carb so supplied photos to see if you know what motor it is.

A question for you, If i remove the rubber bung & its washer from inside the tap will the fuel then just flow straight to the carb ?

Remember runs with fuel if i tip some down the air filter

Its a Chinese special, marketed by Homebase.
If you are unsure about the fuel tap, consider bypassing it for now.
Slackening the bolt on the bottom of the float chamber will allow fuel out - if the tap is working.
No need to buy a carb just yet!
John :)

I did remove the drain on the carb & fuel came out,it then stopped but this might of been the fuel in the carb.

Now you mentioned it i did try it with the tap in either position so tomorrow will need to check.

I dont think i can bypass this tap as the tap is part of the body with the inlet pipe on it.

Ah, so the tap is integral with the carburettor then, two screws holding it in?
Similar to the Honda GX100 type, drop the float bowl off and work the tap - let’s see what happens.

Ok
This will be tomorrow.
There are 2 screws holding the tap cover on and has a red lever.
This is why i asked about removing the rubber washer with the holes etc.
If the tap can be bypassed then good.

Tomorrow i will remove float bowl & with fuel in the tank operate the tap & see if fuel then flows.
See photo of tap set up.

I have a feeling that if you remove the washers you’ll get fuel leaks galore......this carb will be a copy of a Honda or Briggs unit though.
You may be able to sort a replacement from GHS Ltd or L&S Engineers.
John :)

OK cheers but what if i cut the rubber out between the two holes so the fuel flows no matter if tap is on or off ?

Your theory is fine but we're in uncharted waters here.....I'd try very hard to sort the tap, I think.
John :)

Morning,
Ive managed to get outside now the rain has stopped.
Fuel in the tank and fuel drain from the float bow when the 10mm bolt on the side is used, this is the drain bolt.
Now float bowl empty.
No fuel is flowing from this hole so i assume the tap is in the off position.
I then move the tap across but still no fuel.
I pull the fuel pipe off the tap & it flows.

So my issue is the tap.

So i was thinking that to keep the fuel tap sealed & to have no leaks i would drill a hole through the red plastic piece.
Operating the tap will have no effect but fuel will then always flow.

Do you agree ?

See attached images which show the two ports for the fuel when the tap is rotated,i need to drill down through both

Hi,
That didnt make any difference putting a hole through it.
There must be a blockage etc.

I have supplied a photo.
In the float bowl there is a long metal tube which this long holed part fits into, all the small holes are clear & i can also look through its length no problem.

The piece arrowed has what looks like a hole but i cant see through it.
Should i be able to look right through it as i cant so this could be why it will not start ?

Im not sure of the route taken once the fuel goes through the tap

The arrow shows the main jet which must be clear.
the other photo is the emulsion tube, fed by the main jet.
