Ceiling Rose Confusion

I once opened up a ceiling rose to find the usual loop in and out, plus a three core and earth that "looped" in and out. The strappers were uncut, the common connected to the live loop on one side and the live side of the lamp on the other.

It has been a fairly common arrangement for 2 way switching.
 
Yea, like that. I realise it's fairly common, but I only saw in once in 30 years.

I've tended to find a couple of choc bloc connectors hiding within the rose, gets very conjested.
I find this version is tidier with only one join:
