Ceiling rose problem

Also tried in the ceiling, and when I touch the earth the one which didn't glow now glows, and the two which did glow now don't.

If I don't touch the earth then this is reversed (i.e. the two which don't now glow, and one that did glow doesn't).

Sorry to butt in on this thread, but you will find it a lot easier if you chuck that voltage tester away and buy a cheap multimeter. You can get one for about a tenner that will do all you need for simple DIY. It'll be a lot safer than reaching in and touching wires too..

Hi Johnny,

Appreciate your advice, I will look into buying one, though it's a hike for me to go get one right now, and I'd be keen to get this one light finished.

Great.

I posted earlier but basically yes when I touch the earth on the wall switch I got no glow.

On the ceiling the two blacks which glowed (Slightly) no longer glow when I touch an earth, the black which didn't glow does when I touch the earth.

right with the wall switch connected up, one of the blacks at the ceiling should glow when the switch is on and not glow when the switch is off. touch the earths so you dont get an induced glow. only one should come and go when you switch the switch on and off.

It glows when switch is on or off, when I touch earth. Nothing when I don't.

right if you open up wall switch and leave the wires connected, if you put you neon screwdriver in terminal where the black cable is ( leave cables connected) does it glow with switch on then not glow with switch off
