I have a switch on the wall which controls an extractor fan in the same room. It is a utility room.

I wanted to change this swtich into a plug - so that i can use it for something else, as its positioning is ideal.

So, can i just change it for a socket, or is this on the wrong type of circuit?

would it be for a TV in the kitchen? - no you can`t, sorry.

not for a tv. For a microchip controlled catflap actually, this socket is nearest to it.

Oh well, i`ll just have to lay a cable extension.

if you still have an extractor fan then you need to keep that switch.

the cat flap opener is low power then. can the 13A plug be removed? or is the plug part of a transformer for it?

if the plug can be removed, and the appliance only uses a few watts then you may be able to fit a fused spur unit near the fan switch. or a 5A round pin socket and plug.

if the 13A plug cannot be removed you will need a 13A socket wired from a socket circuit.

Surely there's nothing wrong with fitting a socket fed by that fused spur with a 1/2/3A fuse? Labelled up, of course..

That isn't a fused spur, its a double pole switch.
The cable entering is either 1mm or 1.5mm at most.

What's with the wiring there anyway - 3 core and earth in, 3 core and earth out.
If the switch has L & N, what are the blue wires for?
Or is this L, SL and N as would be used for a timed fan? - if so, why is the neutral not switched?

Where is this switch supplied from?
What does the wiring at the fan look like?
