Come On England

it always puzzles me wth fooball, if the teams are not very good (womens football, school teams, sunday league) you will get high scoring games. Same with exhibition / charity games where otherwise top flight teams are not really trying.

If last nights game had been important it would have been one nill or something

So why does this happen, is the real skill and effort in defence, obviously the attackers are still trying

Pressure.
 
I'm thinking defence is the part of the game where training, discipline and teamwork are most important - if this part of the game falls to bits through either incompetence or not trying hard enough there will be lots of goals - last nights game was not all that important so may be the defence on both sides relaxed and enjoyed the game. hence all the goals


I think the womens game is a great example of this, in the very top flight of their game, the amount of goals is falling to the mens professional level, clearly with better coaching team work and discipline the defence is stopping the goals
