Hi - I have a fair knowledge of electrics - well except this one. just had our conservatory fitted and have four double backings for sockets installed with two 2.5 T/E tails sticking out - no problem there.

I also have two tails into my kitchen, I thought there would be just one !
The embarassing question is where do they both go ? and should I use a FCU somewhere ???

I guess who ever installed the cables had intended on breaking into the ring to make it larger.

are they near or in the back of a socket?

how long are the tails?
does the length give you any clues?

both tails are about a metre in length and near a socket in the kitchen. I assumed there would be just one tail to spur off a socket in the kitchen.
the installers say that they have made another ring.

They have done it correctly. If they had left you a single cable, you would have had to fit a fused connection unit, limiting your additional sockets to a combined 13amps.

If you cannot fathom how to make an existing ring larger by adding this addition, maybe get the original installers back!

Imagine your house has a ring around every socket. Break this ring in one place and you will have two ends, join these to the two new ones.
You then have a larger ring.

You could open an old socket, pull one cable out completely. Put one of your new ones in it's place. Then join the remaining new and old in a joint box. This join could also be done with through crimps or terminal blocks in the back of the same socket if there is enought room.

It is not rocket science

Out of curiosity, why did the conservatory installers do part of the electrical install and leave you to pick up the pieces ?

The problem is whoever completes the work can't legitamately issue a certificate for it because they didn't do the first fix !

ebee, equitum fail to understand your curiosity as this was an electrical question and they did me a favour by cutting the sockets out and then laying the cable hope this helps with your concern
