I do have sympathy with the police strike but find it very difficult watching it on the news and thinking of the coal miners, friends of mine in the force boasted to me that they had brought their houses on the extra money they make from the miners strike.
p.s I admire what they do and I believe they more than deserve the money and that applied to the miners too. ;)

richardp . loads of police, good pay, very few miners, who takes the biggest risks  ,and who gets to retire early ;)

Well! I hear what your saying, but the police have added dangers these days, and you can't blame them for doing their job as far as the miners strike was concerned (I probably did at the time)(blame them) water under the bridge now as far as mining's concerned.
I wonder what Arthur scargill would say about it. sad really.

not the pay its the principal. once again this government descends into farce. What is the point of going to a binding tribuneral if they are going to disregard it afterwards.

its to ease infaltionary pressures.......oh hang the police in scotland can have it though
oh and teachers can have a higher rise
oh and so can MPs
does that not cause inflationary pressures though?

This government is a clueless rudderless shambles, still wve got their prudent running of the economy to be grateful for.....oh hang on, thats coming back to bite them on the arse now isnt it

just having a clean up of my desktop and thought I'd share this with you before I delete, the robin was commandeered for a visit from prince Charles. ;)

If you want to see spectacular pay rises - Google GP pay. If they can get it - why not everyone else?

What would be better, is that MP,s wages should rise in line with public sector workers.
we can but dream...............

I reckon they may be also be worried about the new transport arrangements...

MPs are way under paid. They run the country and earn £64K.
A GP earns double that for doing precious little. Won't even work Saturdays.

To maintain wage justice either double the pay for MPs or halve the pay for GPs.

The NHS is one of the world's biggest employers - and everyone in it knows the deal that GPs got. Naturally, they want the same share. You can't make one small section of the workforce rich and refuse it for anyone else.

having been on the end of a govt smear campaign i have a certain understanding of how the police will be feeling.

i have friends who are policemen and i mix socially with them. i too have heard that the miners dispute paid for their houses and how happy they were to bang on their shields to wind up the 'norveners'.

i know the police were checking the numbers of cars parked around the sun murdoch print dispute at wapping then scratching the cars belonging to the striking print workers. i know this for a fact.

during the ambulance dispute i crashed my motorbike, eventually being treated for a broken back and a broken knee cap(real pain  ).

my crash was right by a firestation and they came to help me. the firemen said they had called an ambulance. i knew a soldier would come in a land rover :( and would know nothing about treating me, so i asked for a real ambulance to come(which they did).
the soldier turned up and looked like a rabbit caught in headlights, i said i wouldnt go with him and i explained why and he was cool and relieved not to have to deal with such a serious injury.
when the soldier went out, in came the fattest policeman i have ever seen.
he went into a massive rant about risking his life to get the soldiers land rover to me.
i went mental and told the fat knacker that the govt could afford to pay the ambo's out of the money grabbing overtime he was earning for escorting the soldiers.
no consideration was given as to whether i was in shock or the extent of my injuries by this policeman yet he still wanted to tell me 'wot was wot'

he knew on route that a real ambo had been called so he could have turned back, fire brigade control confirmed this

the rights or wrongs of the dispute, or any of the disputes, dont really matter here, but the police's delight that they could earn money while others struggled has always left a bad taste in my mouth. disputes like these are considered a bit of a game to the plods and are seen as a way to earn some more.

i know that sometimes leave is canceled for disputes but mostly that is a myth because the escorting' type duties were done on a voluntary overtime basis. i did find out for myself because it was suggested to me that the policeman involved would have been forced to work.

i think inner city police have the hardest job of any; in the country and unless you have worked right alongside them then you are not in a position to compare. that said, i also know the earn a lot more than the people they are often compared too and the pay rise will not actually make much difference to them.

although i defintley agree with the principal involved here. i cant help but smile when i see the police so indignant over this.

what goes around comes around......
while i would pay them,i have no sympathy for them over this issue.

most cops only want to be your friend when they want to know something, if you are stop by them theyare not as polite as they say whem they are on camara ,they love giving it large, except if it's a gobby teenager with loads of drink then they just take there names but f### ever happen till ,some poor tw## gets killed :( give them there money but stop letting on we give a fu##

I feel sorry for the police down here...we know a couple near hear both Sergeants who have to struggle on 60k coming into the house a year...terrible.
