Coronavirus: China rejects call for probe into origins of disease

Again more poor information......

How about adding in population densities, as I said before.

England.......424 people per sq kilometre.
Germany......232 people per sq kilometre
France.........118 people per sq kilometre
Italy............ 200 people per sq kilometre
Spain...........92 people per sq kilometre

No wonder our infection rate/deaths are greater.

Doesn't really wash as most people live in cities and for instance Italy more in the north so things are not as simple as that. Also larger countries have areas where hardly any people live at all - as does the UK really but smaller than others.

It's a fact that a higher % of people have died in hospital especially in England.

Worldbank figures

UK 80% population live in urban areas
France 80%
Germany 77%
Italy 70% but most of their problems were in the north
Spain 80%
S. Korea 81%

The spread of cases compared with the population needs consideration as well. That is included in the Gov's stats page now.

Those percentages are pointless statistics, and mean nothing out of context.

We have 3.5 times the population per sq Kilometre of France, therefore we have 3.5 times the amount of urban areas, which equates to 80%

Absolute nonsense. Have a read what you have written.

I had a very similar "discussion" with swmbo last night, and again this morning.

Last night's ended with me saying "you watch the bloody 5pm thing every night, yet it appears not one bit of it has sunk in!"

OK, not well thought out...How about this...

We have 3.5 times the population per sq Kilometre of France, therefore the density of population is 3.5 times as great.
This will equate to a greater transmission rate, all other things being equal.

Still nonsense.

The only discernible difference between us and France is they have a greater gap between their urban areas than us. It does not affect the density within the urban areas. Considering we have the same population occupancy figures (80%) regards urban areas as France then the two countries are easily comparable.

Consider this: An almost empty planet - all land no sea but the entire population of that planet lived inside a four square mile city.

An almost empty planet covered in sea apart from a four square mile island where all the population reside.

yes but people only need to be 2 metres apart, population density isnt the limiting factor.

2 metres is a made up (but convenient) effective separation distance from research done in the 1930's, which is being seriously eroded by a number of scientists, on a number of fronts.

That is why they tell you to stay at home unless v v important to go out.Ideally about 10metres is much better but getting half the thick population to do that.......no chance
