Saw this in a cab at the side of the road.

Traffic light junction, phone box, red light camera.

Surprise to see 3 CUs with 20A breakers and thick cables.

Rcd socket and light too.

It looks like a highway distribution pillar.

Quite common when the local authority owns the distribution cables to streetlights etc. Prob. feeds the traffic lights, surrounding streetlights/bus stops/road signs etc

Looks like the equipment is not suited to its location... those Wylex boards are corroding away.

IMO the cause of that problem is that someone has broken in to the street cabinet and left the door open.

If you feel like it, look for the phone no on one of the nearby lamp posts, which are labelled for the public to report faults, and call it in.

At least its better than having a 4mm street lighting cable feed fused at 500 amps, which would have been the case if the street lights were fed directly of the street main.
In the case of the street main feeder system, a fault with the street lighting cable tends to knock out an entire street at one go, as the street lighting cable (effectively fused at 500 amps) burns back to the main, flashes over at the main, and causes a blackout.

Close it and put a cable tie or six in the lock hole..

Usually 10 or 16mm straight con here, into street light cut outs. No different from a typical service drop.
