Cummings Government searches desperately for a reverse gear.

Tory MP Jo Gideon, trustee of ‘Feeding Britain’ voted against feeding the children of the poor during half-term, and has been whining that she was strongly criticised for doing so.

The suggestion has been made that she should resign.

She says "This Motion had no legal standing and opposition days are used as political tools to make the governing Party look nasty and to grab headlines."

Well, certainly somebody made the Cons look nasty.

And grabbed headlines.

I think it was the 322 Tory MPs who voted like her.

Quite right. No problem funding restaurant-goers with a tenner towards their steak, chips and black forest gateau.

Regardless of need.

Send money to business owners even when they're on regular seasonal closed period.

But the hungry children of the poor?

Nope.

Not deserving.

Some of them might have uncaring or inadequate parents, or mentally ill or sick parents. Punish the kids for that.

Poverty is a sin, and the children must not be permitted to choose their parents so unwisely.
Maybe the Tories aren't interested because these kids are to young to vote.

Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, says "Gavin Williamson's fault."

Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, says "Rishi Sunak's fault"

Boris Johnson hinted on Monday that the government would draw up a new scheme.

https://www.ft.com/content/54d858be-1f0b-4a02-95cf-4209b3c47218

"One senior Tory MP said last week’s tough party line in the Commons had been “partly stoked up” by Mr Williamson, who regarded free school meals as “a leftwing issue”. Others have blamed Mr Sunak or Number 10.

Some Conservative MPs have warned party whips that the issue is “cutting through” with voters in a highly damaging fashion, comparing it to the row over the April trip to Durham by Dominic Cummings, Mr Johnson’s chief adviser."

such is the mindset of society whereby we think it’s someone else’s responsibility to feed our children.

I don't know the full details myself. But kids are in school only 39 weeks a year
How much time do MP's spend in Westminster?

On average about 135 days a year, but they usually get fridays off and don't have to attend at all if they feel they don't wish to...

Their taxpayer subsidised bars and eateries are still mainly open during periods when MP's are not sitting for 'private events'...

And they're quite happy to carry on claiming 'expenses' all year round whilst seeing many kids go hungry!

the mindset of a responsible society is to help those who need it.

please tell me Benny, do you think a mother that left her husband and is suffering PTSD should be refused some extra help to feed her children?

Johnson should do a u turn

how ever

it is a bit of a sorry state when it actually has to be food that is given directly to children

as opposed to money given to the parents for them to buy the food

ounce upon a day rent money for those on welfare was given directly to the land lord by the council

than some one said no the money must be given to the tenants who than pay it to the LL , probably some human rights waffle ?

end result evictions go up

LL reluctant to rent out property to those on housing benefit

my take on the caper any way :)

A dogs breakfast

Labour, the party that .......

Opened Britain's doors to eastern european migrants.
Whilst france and germany restricted them.

Presided over, over spending.

Presided over inequality rising during their (labour) watch.

Were a failure on social housing.
More homes were built during the last year of the Thatcher government than were built in the 13 years of Labour government.

Sold off the Gold.
All 395 tons of it. At a time when prices were at a 20 year low.
After the sale, prices quadrupled.

Started several wars under bliar's control.
etc etc.....
No amount of reversing will ever put that lot right.

"Boris Johnson insisted no child would go hungry this winter due to “inattention” by his government as his government tried to quieten an ongoing backlash over its refusal to extend food aid over the school holidays.

Amid increasing anger from Tory MPs forced to vote down Labour’s motion last week, the Times (paywall) reported that Downing Street figures have begun a partial climbdown from their stance against Marcus Rashford’s free school meals campaign and are planning to increase funding for the poorest families during the Christmas holidays.

However, throughout the day, ministers continued to defend the government’s provision of welfare during the pandemic, despite pressure from local governments (including several Tory-run councils) that resources were stretched and more direct action from central government was needed"

I wonder who he'll try to blame.

Indeed, many scratters scrounge it and do not need or deserve it though, having. Squandered benefits on other stuff
How many benefit scroungers are there?

What % is it?

You always mention benefit scroungers as though there are no people with genuine need.

You also ignore the many people now suffering in work poverty.
