had to replace hot water cylinder today, looks like it was damaged by overheating, heated by a solid fuel backboiler,so no thermostat is evident to control temp, worried it may rupture the tank again, what can i advise the customer to reduce problems

have already told them not to let the fire get to hot,and keep the door shut on the fire to keep it cooler, any other advice guys and gals,

they are not to happy to use the immersion heater has they say its too dear,

cheers

Tell em to keep their house insurance up to date....all you can do is give em the facts and let them do as they see fit.

maybe tell them that in Penzance a couple of years ago a poor lady was in bed and her overheated emersion heater ruptured and scalded her to death (she died a few days latter).....

read that already when doing a search, worry hey :( dont think it will stop them from using it though or upgrading there system,u know how it is,pocket comes first before safty it seems, silly, can not put price on there lives im sure, they only called me out to fix a leak on a solder join,i then tiold them that there tank is splitting,i guess they are lucky they had a leak, otherwise,im sure the tank would of ruptured big time, was only minor damage when i went round, the insulation on the tank looked like hommer simsons belly

still confused mate,do u mean plumb in the rad or just place it near the tank to asorb some of the heat, explain more if u will, worth knowing for me and others has its a safty thing which i think is important

so connect it to the flow and return or to the pipe from the hot supply pipe :?

seems a plan there.. just increase both the amount of water being heated and the surface area looseing heat.

thanks lads, another lesson learned, will mention it to the customer, they have had a lucky escape :D :D

How the heck do you damage a copper cylinder with hot water? Copper melts at 1060C! As long as it's vented and the system is supplied with water, what's the problem?

Chris, I think some one yanking a chain. How do you make fire less hot?

I think side bags would help if, as Scoty says 'captain the engines cannea take it'
