fuji s7000, love it. Couldn't be doing with all the kit you need for an SLR. Only fault with the fuji is the bulb shutter mode is limited to 15 secs so you can't do good astronomy shot 
Does have a plastic body though mind so not for you. I'm sure some canons have magnesium alloy bodies (maybe its just the frame?) - and you can't beat their image quaility.
