We have a problem that at the moment I can't fix..............we have a double dimmer switch in our loft conversion bedroom and it is linked to a double rocker switch at the bottom of the loft con stairs.

One dimmer controls 3 x GU10 downlights 50 watt in the main room and the other dimmer swiitch controls the GU10 downlight at the top of the stairs - also 50 watt.

The original sparky installed a double dimmer that clicked as you turned it somewhat defeating the object of having it next to the bed because it was actually kind of noisy and clicky. We swapped the dimmer for a model that was silent as you rotated the knob to dim the lights. It works perfectly with the 3 ceiling lights. But when we dim the single light above the stairs it starts to flicker manically as it is dimmed and is quite fit inducing !

What should we fit that is quiet when turned and can cope with dimming one spotlight please? thankyou !

It's possible that your dimmer is faulty as it shouldn't be flickering.

Another thing is it might be underloaded. Have a look on the back of the switch it will say something like 40-250W

You need to make sure your minimum rating is lower than 50W

If a recent conversion, you may have an energy saving lamp fitted. They dont like dimmers.
