Disable smilies

Just before a smiley you don't want it to parse (or at the start of the post), type [plain]. Then after the smiley, type [/plain].

Without 'plain' command...
:) = :)

After 'plain' command...
:) = :)

But you also lose the ability to use bold/italic/colours/links/etc during the 'plain'.

Gaz :)

All I wanted to do was to write on:off (as in mark:space ratios) and not get on:off...

Thanks.

It's a right PITA - firstly I (clearly) need to do this so infrequently that I don't remember how (never a problem when we had a box to tick), and secondly the [plain] [/plain] tags aren't available as a formatting button like Bold, Italic etc, and so are much less handy to do than having a box to tick.

Another one for the list of new forum "features" which are nothing but retrograde steps that hinder, not help, users.

I guess the easiest way would be to include spaces:

on : off
turnover : profit

Sure it looks a bit weird, but much less so than an unwanted emoji I'd say, and quicker than having to faff with tags.
