do bg operatives tell porky pies.

If there were say eight engineers then I dont see anything wrong with half semi specialising in Vaillants and the others half specialising in Worcesters for example.

However, what I had in mind was that everyone would specialise in one or two of more rare and diffficult models like the Keston, gem, Excalibur etc. The currect situation is that anyone who has a more difficult or less common boiler has to put up with a succession of BG engineers who fail to fix it and then its often only fixed after a joint visit by a manufacturer's engineer.

its amazing to me that BG are unable to take a Geminox on cover!
not true, we have a geminox on contract, but as they are quite rare I dont think we stock any parts so a week to ten days wait!

One that I had to go to in Kensington had been refused BG cover on the telephone "because they did not provide cover for that model".

Having worked in the office, then as an engineer, I am pretty certain we don't decline contracts on certain makes; Theyre raised as a First Visit Inspection, then the engineer calls the shots!

if it has a GC number it can go on.

ive never been told to not take on any specific models. i regularly refuse a contract if a customer is not happy with the parts situation though. if virtually all the parts are 7-10 days then they sometimes dont want to go on, nowt wrong with that.

agile- we dont have the pleasure of being able to tun down work on boilers because we dont know them. like nickso said if its got a c we'll do it. speaking for myself, i will however tell the customer if ive never seen it and dont have a clue about it. if they want me to crack on and start learning well fair do's , b ut i always tell em they'd be better off with a service agent for that boiler.

funnily enough they can never get in touch with the guy that installed it.

so they wait and they wait and then they give up and buy a new 'popular' boiler.

i allways give the car metaphor.

'buy a ford and anyone can fix it. buy a tvr and your ****ed'

if folks want to buy something special and rarely seen they should expect that not just any heating eng is gonna fix it.

people should do thier own research on the popularity of boilers before installing them.

ive never heard of let alone seen a geminox, excalibur or these broag things. wish i could say the same of keston.

I had a BG Keston TOFO not long ago on a "first visit". BG AR no ventilation in loft space.

A little work on these and time is all that is needed. I've seen the Powermax AR for undersized compartment vents too.

No it wasn't Oxford.

There is sometimes a little confusion about both of these appliances as unless the whole length of the flue can be visually inspected then these are AR and I've yet to see one with inspection panels allowing a visual inspection alog the whole length.
