Just moved into a new house but my van wont fit in the large garage. The van i a couple of inches too tall.

If I moved the lintel up one or two courses would i need to inform BC?

Oh and the garage is a sperate outbuilding to the house.

probably not as the lintel should already be suitable.

make sure you include padstones where applicable.

may be also worth leaving a bit of extra clearence
to allow for a fully empty van with well inflated tires
and another 25mm so you can add a bump if nessesery to stop the water flowing under the door

Argh had a look at it and I can't remove a course, because its block work, also what i can only describe as a small section steel purlin is resting on it too.

Now i saw it from the inside it is huge, not a conventional lintel as i know it but it must be about 10" sq. do you think it would be a BAD idea to remove a inch from the bottom?

Of course you cant know without seeing it but in principal??

if it's rc, the steel bars will be close to the underside, with enough coverage to stop them going rusty.

Jack it up!

You can put a brick or two on top of blocks. Or just a thicker or double padstone.

Cant really jack it up due to this roof strut/ purlin resting on the top of it.

It's only taking small load due to it being a single width garage and the roof is just sheeting so I cant imagine there are that many bars in it. i'll try a test drill see if there are any steels near the base.

it desn't actually have pad stones as such, they are part of the casting.
