Actually, if you enlarge the pictures, you can see how shoddy the pointing is. And the issues on the racked ceiling suggest there's no insulation above it.

I think you're right about there being no insulation on the raked ceiling. Had a look in the loft and all the areas where there is damp and cracks along the raked ceiling, there is no onsulation.
