Looking to buy some downlights for my kitchen/diner and ideally want low energy ones if possible.

Any ideas on which are best i.e. LED,CFL Halogen etc etc?

I have fitted these recently and they do give a fair amount of light though remember they are still spots - so you get pools of light.

You can get dimmable ones.

For downlights you generally start them about 600/800mm from the ceiling wall and then one every 1metre.

You will need to take into account how you intend to access the ceiling void to run the cables and leave sufficient space around the units for cooling - generally 100mm all around - definitely not near any insulation.
