I used to fit a capnut when I had a washing-machine valve, to reduce risk of accident

A plumber told me it would not withstand heat but I'm not sure that's right.

Always used a 3/4" plastic cap on an appliance valve if it's to be kept, though usually these days with single fill it would be removed.
