Actually mate, it was the coupler that caught my eye, when I zoom in, looks like there’s a thread on it, but probably just the photo.

Never heard it called that mate. Must be regional! Where you from?
I'd use MDPE, it's the correct stuff, and you should be able to get a Coupling to take you from lead to MDPE without issue.
