I'd rather live in a society where guns are restricted than in a society where innocent people are 'punished' by having their lives taken by legally held weapons!

I 100% agree.

Ok, the States has a completely different history when it comes to guns, so you can understand the reluctance by many of them to change. However I can think of nothing worse than having more guns around in the UK. When you think about things like neighbour disputes, road rage incidents etc, there would be many more deaths if guns were in the equation.

The alternative to our gun laws is not a USA-style free-for-all.

Loosening some restrictions does not mean removing all of them.
