Hi, just had a storage cupboard installed under the stairs. The gas meter is located in there and has an earth wire attached to one of the top gas pipes.

The thing is is that it now spans across the cupboard opening. My question is whether I can unattach the wire from the top and reattach it to the pipe at the bottom somewhere so as to route the wire around the cupboard opening.

Thanks for your help.

Strictly speaking, the bonding conductor should be before and branch or junction, and on your (house pipework) side of the meter.
Your conductor is already past a couple of joints, so I can see no problem with you moving it to where you suggest.

Be sure the earth clamp is securely fitted to the pipe.

I have seen countless attempts to fit re-fit old earth clamps which are loose.

If you do attempt to re-use the old clamp, remove the strap, and hammer the strap out flat over a piece of wood.

This way you have a better chance at re-fitting it securely.
