Not sure if i'm on the right thread but i will ask anyway. When earthing copper pipework such as sink water pipes can you just simply take an earth cable from an existing 240v mains socket?

Thanks.

Are you reffering to the main equipotential bond?

If so, NO. It needs a cable from the origin of the installation to the pipework.

Normally this is a 10.0mm² cable (but may need to be bigger depending on the supply type)

If you're talking supplementary, then this does not generally need to be done in kitchens.

if you're talking supp bonds in bathrooms, then I hope there won't be a socket too close by...(unless it's an isolating shaver skt..)

Yeah sorry guys its a kitchen sink/pipework i was refering to. I replaced a dp front and when i removed the old one i noticed a 1.5mm earth cable screwed in on its own in the metal back box. I traced the cable and it lead to the kitchen pipework. Is it needed?

AFAIK it was a requirement of the 15th edition regulations, but is no longer required by the current edition.

Eeeh, lad, there's no substitute for experience!

All you lot that've been flung up not knowing the 15th or Maggie T or even warra turntable is.

Tch!

Would i be able to pull out the earth cable as it is just slung behind kitchen units to underneath the sink attached to copper pipe and do i really need to earth the pipework?

Yes, you can pull out the single 1.5mm2 cable.
Have you got a 10mm2 main equipotential bonding cable running to the consumers side of the main water stop tap?

I know what a record turntable, as I have one in my room is, as I listen to my mum's LP's (60s, 70s & 80s Music), & I am 18.
