I have a memera 2000 consumer unit with a aa203 contactor wich is switched via signal cable that comes from the smart meter into a 5 amp fuse carrier which then connects to the contactor.
If the contactor fails, no suspicion it will soon, is an up to date alternative available for the mem 2000.
If not maybe new c u is it straightforward to install new c u with a contactor

Personally I would always favour a new one as they're better for safety. Fitting them is fairly easy, tho i wouldn't recommend it unless you are completely sure of what you're doing. Electrics should be played with. I understand it and competent to do lights, sockets etc. But fuse board isn't something id do
