I want to install an electric fire into my living room .

What would be the best way to do it...?

The wall that i wish to fit the fire to has two plug sockets either side of where i wish to fit my electric fire. but i dont want to be able to see the cable for the fire.

Would it be best to drill and fit a cable from the fire to the other side of the wall (outside) then coming back in to one of them sockets ..???

Please help

Thanks

Tom

You could cut a chase horizontally to a FCU beside the chimney breast, and drill into the chimney itself.

You need to check that the sockets you mention are either part of a ring final, or form a radial circuit.

How does that sound?

Have a look on here for 'safe zones'.

I'm in the same situation. Its a 100 yr old house with the consumer unit next to the chimney breast, so I had the electrician provide the socket between the CU and the chimney with its own circuit. Then I can convert it to an FCU to supply the fire. I dont have to do any chasing because the alcove is going to be enclosed with a cupboard, I can just run on surface and drill into the side of the chimney breast.
