Electric gate is catching the track at one end, gate gets stuck

Those are only of use for detecting large items such as vehicles constructing the gate. The absolute bare minimum.

Sliding gates need sensors that cover the full height of the gate and posts at both ends, so that they don't crush objects/animals/people that are in the way, including where people put their arms through the bars of the gate or between the gate and the post.

how can these gate companies get away with doing something like that, thats not legal then. I will ask the company tomorrow what they suggest.

It depends on when it was originally installed, I understand regulations have tightened up over the years.
