Electrical heating in two very large rooms - pls help

How do i find out what supply i have.

Furthermore regarding the air source system, can you actually get any that look half decent. I was looking at the LG Art cool, but dont know how good these are as well as what they cost

phone your supplier and ask them.. they should know, or be able to put you through to someone who will..

My premises consists of two floors i.e. ground floor and 1st floor with an unaccessible basement. On the ground floor I have drylined walls and ceiling built around an aluminum structure.

On the first floor the walls are dot and dabbed with the a drylined ceiling and some insulation in this ceiling.
"Some"?

How much?

Should be lots, and in the walls, and on the ground floor, or you're going to be throwing away money.

O and another thing, remember it is a design agency with a slicked out decor lol last thing i need is some massive thing dangling out of the side of my wall lol
No - the last things you need are poor insulation and heating which doesn't work.

The important factor is that it should work - anybody who prioritises form over function is a tw@.

No need to be insulting to the OP

The important factor is that it should work - anybody who prioritises form over function is "misguided" perhaps would be polite.

Why resort to likening someone to female genitalia, just because, in their quest to have things looking nice, they forgot the to heat the place or insulate it.

Stick a picture on here? Meter, cutout and any other gubbins nearby.

Decent brand air con will all be pretty good at what they do. Mitsu, LG, Toshiba, Daikin. But you'd need to get a quote from a local air con specialist - they know the systems they sell.

martin thanks for the support matey, i think BAS is getting too old these days, dont see any posts of his posts worthwhile when he makes such smart comments.

And to the question you asked regarding how much insulation, enough for building control to pass it. This is not due to neglecting insulation as that would be silly, it is more to do with lack of access.

Steve ill post a pic of the meter tomorrow matey,

Btw do any of you guys think the mobile calor gas heaters would be good enough?

I'm not - just pointing out the importance of correct priorities. The OP never said that he was going to prioritise form over function.

And I never said he was a tw@.

You say "polite".

I say "mealy-mouthed and utterly failing to make the point for fear of offending someone who deserves to be offended".

Because forgetting those things would be a stupidly incompetent thing to do.

Oh - and "female genitalia"? Don't be a pillock.

Here are some photos of my meter and all the gizmos that go with it

looks like 100A ( max ) single phase supply..

I say ( max ) because for all we know from looking, it could be a 60A or 80A fuse in the cutout..

is it possible to double the size of this ColJAck without switching to 3 phase and if so how much would it cost to do this conversion

Unfortunately not. :(

To increase capacity from 100A single phase will require three phase to be installed.

You've been there since March - how hot did it get in the summer?

How hot do you think it might get in an extended period of hot weather?

Maybe air source heat-pumps would be a good idea - a lot of heating for little electricity consumption, and cooling as well in the summer.

Single phase heat pumps are available. Decent ones will throw out 4kw of heat for 1kw of electric (though this efficiency drops as the outside temperature drops, and the outdoors units need space and shelter or they get bunged up with ice and snow). And they do need to defrost (but this is pretty quick - i remember watching one once, it was bunged up with snow, and as soon as the compressor stopped and it wooshed, the snow started melting)

So you can have a substantial amount of heating on that supply, but it will cost you in the short term. You will be glad of the cooling in the summer though ;)
