Engine lifting beam In workshop

I'm looking at installing an engine hoist in my workshop while the roofs being done. The ceiling joists are 2x8 c24 4.1m clear span between the walls. I was going to double 1 up and install a steel plate bolted every 300mm in-between them to form a finch beam. I've been told by a couple of friends this is overkill but I'd rather get it right now while I've got access to install it, rather than the headache of trying to retrofit it after the roofs on

Seems like a reasonable solution. Though I would always favour a folding engine hoist on wheels.

Are you planning to actually use it to fit engines? If so, the trouble with a static hoist is that you have to move the vehicle back and forth etc. As above, a moveable folding engine hoist is a much better option.
