That appears to be a light pipe in a useless position directly above the tall cupboards, and where exactly do they plug in small appliances such as a kettle?

All the money was poured away on the kitchen - check the state of the 'garden' through the doors.

The extractor appears to be set up for recirculation despite it obviously being on an external wall.

All, As a general question to address my wonderment...

When I see this many downlighters I have always presumed that it was done in the distant past (a few years ago) when LED downlighters produced less Lux [DELETE: Lumens] of light per watt. And so more downlighters were needed to reach the required light level.

So now that LED downlighter bulbs/luminaries produce significantly more light per watt than they used to, has anyone had experience of someone changing all (say) 28 old downlighter LED bulbs for new ones, and then wondering why the room is now blindingly bright? Or do they hunt around for super low ouput bulbs?

From where, I wonder? Running one down from the roof of a 2-storey building is disruptive and space-consuming, but if there's a flat roof over the kitchen then WT* did they not put a nice roof lantern in?

My thoughts too, but maybe they ran out of time/money, maybe what we're seeing is a new extension and only recently was the garden a building site. Now is not a good time of year to be laying turf etc.

Maybe they have an mhrv system and don't want to unbalance it?

How can you tell?

You can see the vent slots in the stainless steel housing above the extractor.
For external venting the slots should be concealed, the top part is normally supplied in 2 sections which slide together so can be installed with the slots showing or hidden.

So which is more likely, the housing has been installed upside down, or its recirculating?
