Hello,

I've put an extractor fan in the bathroom and am now at the stage where I need to do the electrical bits.

I thought it would be a simple case of following the instructions on the manual but when I opened the ceiling rose in the bathroom I knew I'd hit a problem.

I've uploaded the pix here:

Can anyone please give me a hand to completing this bearing in mind I am new to this?

Else - can someone tell me how much I should pay someone to do this for me please?

Many thanks!

Hello,

I've been reading that thread posted by lectrician and to be honest I dont understand all of it

- how can I tell what wire is which? I expected the "usual" red, blue and neutral wires! Do I need to buy a multimeter first?

Really sorry for being a newbie (though I did a C&G in electrics 10 yrs ago hehe)...

Anyway - can you also tell me how much you think it would cost to get an electrician to wire this in please?

many thanks again

Fair enough... It's just that you hear so many stories of people being charged a lot because they dont know whats involved...

So i thought people here who knows their stuff may say it shouldnt cost more than this etc...

thanks anyway.

You're in London. So you'll be paying London prices. £40-50 per hour.

That number is just something i plucked out of the air, i dont know how much London sparkies charge, but given a country average of £25-35 per hour, i guesstimated that.

Its simply a case of taking a live, switched live and neutral to your fan. You'll need a length of 3 core and earth. As someone else suggested, take those connections in that light up into the loft, and fit a junction box there. A junction box will give you the space you need to figure out what's what!
