Hi, first question from me, can I wire an extractor fan into the switch for my shower or does it need to come off the ring main independantly. I currently don't have one fitted and the condesation is killing me!
the shower has to be on its own circuit (something in the regs about water heaters above xxxkw).
If you take it off the ring main it will need fusing down via an FCU, and you will not be (safely) able to wire it so it is activated by the light (as it would be connected to more than one circuit).
Its most common (and generally quicker) to put them on the light circuit.
All bathroom parts must be suitably IP rated for the zones they are in.
All (new) bathroom circuits must be RCD protected, if all (inc old) circuits are not RCD protected the CPC's and extraneous conductive parts must be bonded.
All work on bathroom electrics is notifiable to building control under part P, this costs so for a small job like this its generally best to get an electrician (this looks like it would be a quick job for an electrician or a long job for you)
make sure you get a decent fan (and a gap under the door for the air to get into the room) or theres not much point.
you may consider an inline fan in the loft space with a pull switch outside of the bathroom, but the manufacturers instructions may still require an RCD (and new concealed cables <50mm depth require RCDs)
