Last night, I was watching an old Doc Martin, where a 'too clever' school boy was doing work experience with the Doc. The lad misused 'Stat', which he intended to mean 'immediately'.

The "too clever" schoolboy was right. i.e. the "too clever" scriptwriters were.

Stat was suggested to be short for statin - the Latin for to keep still, calm down. The error wasn't corrected.

There is no Latin word "statin". Our -statin drugs are named from the Latin 'stare', meaning to stand still. Specifically from 'statum' which is a perfect passive participle. (No, me neither).

Germany and italy have unpolarised plugs with an earth connection.

French plugs are physically polarised, but my understanding is that in practice the countries that use them are not consistent on polarity.
Most plugs are considered double insulated, or so I‘ve been told. Some are only suitable for supplying power to double-insulated appliances while others may also supply earthed appliances.

And yes, there are several non-polarised earthed plugs in the world. Belgian ones are used in a number of countries, which have conflicting requirements for the position of L and N.
