Im looking at replacing my boiler soon and was thinking of buying a Vaillant ecoTEC plus 837 as they seem to get good reviews.

But ive noticed Ferroli are giving 5yr warranty on their new Optimax 38 boilers, which seems a good deal.

Should I pay more and stick with a Vaillant 837 boiler at around £1,100 but with shorter warranty, or go for the cheaper Ferroli Optimax 38 at £750 with 5yr cover? (Obviously comparing like for like models)

Those boilers are miles apart, one will not need a service visit(warrenty repair) in 5 years even though it has a 2year standard warrenty.the other will have been relplaced twice over in it's 5year warrenty and will need replacing at the end of 5years.

lcgs, thanks for the reply.

Ive edited my post giving the models I was looking at. Think Id like the bigger sized 37kw boiler.

Point taken about them being worlds apart. Im happy to pay more for the Vaillant if they are indeed superior. I guess they are a proven product, whereas the Ferroli is a new model.

Ferroli have been around for years and always been pants.

Vaillant are good boilers, worth the extra.

How big is the house its going into, 37kw is massive!

You'll need a 28mm supply for at least part of the way if the boiler is more than a few metres away from the meter, also what other gas appliances you have in the house will need to be considered.

3 bedrooms, one bathroom. But planning to add an extention to give me 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

Rather it be over powered than under powered.

Its 28kw to heating, but even so that a massive amount. Overpowered means less efficient to a degree, also as stated earlier you need to consider the gas supply, possibly the incoming water main pressure/flow rate to maximise the water performance provided by the boiler. Gas supply needs to be capable of providing enough gas when the appliance is on full load.

If you are intending using multiple hot water outlets at once, you may want to consider a water cylinder unvented or vented.

Point taken, thanks for the advice.

Perhaps I should look at the less powerful models, such as the Vaillant ecoTEC plus 937

Have you considered a system boiler and unvented cylinder combo? Should provide all the hot water you need, plenty for 2 good showers at one time, and maybe a 618 vaillant boiler?

Would need someone to check siting requirements of cylinder and mains pressure/flow rate.

Failing that, the 831 vaillant should be adequate, I have one in my own home so that say's something?

831 will not do 2 hot outlets at once realistically. (837 would just about but nothing worth shouting about)

the 837 is 37kw hot water and range rated to 28kw for heating so you can always adjust the heating side down.

always size a combi for your hotwater demand. unvented will depend on your cold main pressures and flow rates, that said so will a combi.

personally wouldnt touch a viessmann, carp after service

minimum rate on an 837 is 12kw though  possibly what a house of that size combined heat loss would equate too

Dont really have room for a cylinder, so would prefer a combi.

ferolli vs vaillant = scooter vs yamaha R1
ferolli vs vaillant = ford escort vs bugati
ferolli vs vaillant = ferolli vs vaillant

get a ferolli and keep the gas repairs industry ticking over ;)

So are you saying Ferolli arent good? :D

I guess their 5yr warranty is excellent, but its beter to have a boiler that doesnt need a 5yr warranty.

I think im learning.
