Hi I've bought some down lights for the body which are fire rated gu10. Well threes still require the metal plays above? Will i need to cut around the insulation?

Many thanks

"Fire rated" means that the fitting will slow down the passage of fire from the room below into the space above (ie ceiling/loft void).

It has NOTHING to do with anything else.

So

Yes, you'll need to make a clear space around the fitting in accordance with the maker's instructions

and

yes you will need to make provision for the fitting to have some room to breathe if you are contemplating throwing 30cm of insulation over the top of it.
