any ideas on the best way to cut out a section of laminate, skirting board and plaster board walling to allow me to fit a new hearth? id prefer not to have to take up the laminate but cut it in place somehow.

thx in advance

To cut the laminate floor in place you could use a circular saw, and set the cutting depth to the thickness of the laminate.

a friend of mine also suggested a circular saw or a router

which of these do you think would be better?

are they a similar price?
