My girlfriend has picked up a new light fitting for the living room. Unfortunately it fits close to the ceiling and has very little space to accomadate the 'loop-in' wiring in present ceiling rose.

If this was an upstairs room I could remove the ceiling rose and move the other connections into a junction box situated in the loft and just have a flex supplying the light from the junction box but as this is downstairs I don't have ready access to the space immediately above the ceiling.

This must be a fairly common scenario so I thought I'd ask you guys for advice on dealing with this.

Cheers!

Is there no room in the top of the light fitting for the terminations?
Usually you can pull down the cables from the ceiling to create another inch or two to make the connections.

If not you will need to make a space in the ceiling large nough for a choc box, make all your connections in there with just a short piece of three core flex going to the ligh fitting.

Cut a round cavity box or a round besa/conduit box into the ceiling to accomodate the wiring.
