Ordered the domestic version yesterday having asked first, 'How close can you solder to the ice with reasonable security?' Answer was that it depends on how quick you are (fairly obvious) but they've had people go as close as 3 inches (on 15mm). Does anyone own or have experience of one or any good tips?

wait till you hear the CRACK then you know its froze

Just like real freezing pipes they expand, so the fitting won't fit if you are too close.

Why not just use a bung kit and soak out the water where you want to solder with a tissue?....mind you what do you solder with a system full of water or am I just overcautious
