An electrician might take the view that the installation is of such an age it is not possible to evaluate it according to current regulations and standards.

It's not. I wouldn't fancy disconnecting VIR conductors for testing without risk of damaging them.

Or possibly of them damaging you - I think there are good grounds for saying the installation is so old the electrician cannot work on it safely.

True but it should have been isolated prior to working on it.

Would be fun to see the supply intake ...

I've seen a few installs like that ... Fed from a nice shiny new digital meter.
