BIG CHANGE ON ITS WAY, GAS SAFE REGISTER TELLS THE PUBLIC
Gas Safe Register, the official gas safety body in Great Britain and
the Isle of Man from 1 April, is making the public aware that a big
change is imminent – the CORGI gas register is going. The campaign
makes use of; public relations, TV, radio, national press, online and
outdoor advertising to get the message about the change of gas
register into homes.
The public relations activity has been ongoing since January, but with
a theme ‘Big Change’, the national advertising campaign for Gas Safe
Register starts from 30 March.
Adverts are appearing in the Sun, Daily Mirror, Daily Star, Daily
Express, Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, Guardian, Independent and the
Times. Large outdoor posters will start appearing at more than 450
sites across the country near heavy footfall national rail stations.
Adverts showing around the perimeter at rugby and cricket matches
televised on Sky TV from March to October.
Radio adverts run from March to June on channels across the regions
from TalkSport, Magic FM and Heart to Key 103, Hallam, Metro and Clyde
1. Gas Safe Register is running TV adverts with more than 100 spots
during a week from 16 April.
Gas Safe Register’s chief executive, Peter Eldridge comments: “It’s
been a delicate balancing act to get the change to Gas Safe Register
out to the public at the right time. We couldn’t do a big publicity
push too early, people still need to use CORGI gas installers until
the end of March and we can’t jeopardise this. That said we have been
doing a lot of groundwork over the past few months talking to local
authorities, housing associations and landlords to help them tell
their tenants the change is coming. We’ve also been making sure more
vulnerable groups are reached early through organisations such as
Citizens Advice and Age Concern.”
Media are picking up the story about the change to Gas Safe Register,
it featured on more than 20 radio stations between February and March.
Peter Eldridge continued: “We’ve been interviewed by television
broadcasters including BBC Breakfast and introduced them to real life
case studies of people with problems resulting from unsafe gas work.”
Broadcasters have said they plan to feature Gas Safe Register close to
the launch date on 1 April
Gas Safe Register also has the support of energy suppliers large and
small, who are helping to get the message about the change of register
to their customers, reaching around 20 million homes. “We’re confident
the timing is right to tell people about the change to Gas Safe
Register, and we are pleased that energy suppliers, registered
engineers and other bodies are working with us to spread the message",
added Peter Eldridge.
“It’s important to remember that this is not a one off campaign. We
will continue to raise awareness of using Gas Safe registered
engineers to make sure the public know to always ask for the Gas Safe
Register ID card. So if you are a gas engineer and you haven’t
registered yet I suggest you do it now. You will be asked for your
card.”
