I was talking to a plumber friend several years ago. He was, until he retired Corgi registered. I stated that when he was a young man, plumbing was a skilled job. Pipes were usually lead, sometimes steel or cast-iron, and skill was required to install and connect this type of pipework. Then came copper tubing which was much easier to work with, and special fittings to join lengths together. Finally, plastic, with push-fit connectors requires little skill to install. He agreed, and said that it was only the "difficult" jobs which kept him going, along with his CORGI registration which allows him to work on gas. Thus, why is plumbing seen as such a lucrative occupation? Comments on a postcard, please.
