I am a bit disappointed too, 87% efficiency (class B) for a baxi combi instant 105 HE. I was looking for class A, but have to admit I've slipped on this one...too late now.

Yes, I am going it myself, not a big deal. I am not corgi, but will get one to certify it. Apparently it is legal to do it for myself then get a corgiman (like yourself) to certify it, but cannot do it for someone else if I am not corgi.

Yes, totally legal to do it yourself, but could be hard to get a corgi-man to sign it off in any meaningful way (check this doesn't affect your building's insurance or invalidate the warranty of the boiler).

Indeed I had read this, but had considered the definition of competence.

Provided you do it correctly, you have competently installed the boiler and are thus competent. Without installing the boiler one's competence can neither be proved nor disproved.

Therefore, it is perfectly legal to install your own combi, provided you do it correctly.

Some of the most incompetent people i have seen working on gas have had the corgi ticket makes you wonder how and why they get it in the first place.

There's no source for "the regs" which is particularly useful. If you must diy then get hold of a book which tells you what you need to know. It ain't rocket science but you wouldn't "guess" what to do!
