When creating an FCU-protected spur off the ring (so multiple sockets can be supplied), must the FCU itself be on the ring, or can the FCU be connected at an existing socket (providing said socket is on the ring and the FCU it the first item on the spur)?

i.e.

==[FCU-on-ring]----[socket]----[socket]----[socket]

or...

==[existing-socket-on-ring]----[FCU]----[socket]----[socket]----[socket]

Key:
- single t&e cable
= two t&e cables (part of the ring)

I assume - from reading this forum - that both are acceptable, but assumptions can be dangerous things...

Background [FWIW]: I've just discovered that the boiler in my new house is presently the last item on a whole chain of (un FCUed) spurs and I'd like to rationalise and rectify this in the most appropriate way.

Thanks,
Tom

The FCU can either be fed directly on the ring, or as an unfused spur from the ring.
