Well, Rob, this is for you:

The consumer unit in our holiday apartment in Crete:

Ah, but was yours as clever as mine?

As you go in, there's a card slot near the door, slot the card in, and the power's on. When you leave, everything goes off, bar the fridge.

I think you can have honorary complementary membership of my Sad Gits™ Club.

The first meeting is a week today - don't forget to bring an SD card stuffed with snaps & a viewer...

That's to stop you going out and leaving the A/C on.

I've never seen one of them that was anything other than a simple mechanical switch, easily fooled by a suitable bit of plastic, folded cardboard etc.

OK - I'll go and find the b****y cable....

Air con. centrally controlled by reception, and a chargeable extra.

The system is cleverer than that - it was either a prox card, or magnetic, where the relay kicks in/out when the card is almost home. But cardboard etc did not work.

To stop residents leaving the supply on, the prox/mag card was attached to the key via a standard key ring which was then welded up in several places....

The only "not-clever" thing about the system was that you could not (unless you rigged up an extension from the fridge socket) leave electric mozzie killers plugged in to do their evil work prior to bedtime while you were out of the flat.

Feeling left out here guys, off to book a holiday any suggestions where you like might pics of CU's from

They have a similar setup in some travel inn type places, last time I found a good use for my amicus membership card!

Same deal when I was in turkey.

Card slot by door, only fridge remained on. Hagar enclosure with hagar odds and sods in it.

Actually did this recently with a small block of rooms attached to pub. However, with everything first fixed and done, client decided against the option.

There is now a blank plate below the light switch as you enter each bedroom / suite of bedrooms.

I guess the question is whether the electricty saved is sufficiant to make up for the customers it would **** off when they are unable to leave thier phones on charge.

And camera, laptop...

Another good use for the 4-gang.....

Have you seen that wallpaper in Ban's hotel room??!!
Those were the tiles in the kitchen...
